Party time

Surprisingly, Maya sported her Elmo party hat for at least 5 minutes on Sunday. I think she only wore it at all because Valorie was the one to put it on her. Lucas was much more sporting about the whole thing, and actually wore his home. Valorie reported that Lucas wore his Elmo hat to sleep, to a second event that night, AND to the grocery store–now that is Elmo birthday spirit!

Our friends Susan, Damian, and Heather (Simon was on a business trip…boo) came from SF to help Maya celebrate and she was especially excited to see the ladies, who are pregnant with her future best friends. Of course, gramma and grandpa came bearing 203984029384 gifts and most importantly, an Elmo balloon (which she will play with for the next week, I assure you). And Valorie and Matt came with Maya’s best friend Lucas, who entertained Maya the whole time (when she wasn’t entertained by the cupcake).

The little red rocketship was one of these gifts, and Lucas showed Maya how to use it, though she likes to push it around and push the buttons more than ride on it. Maya is also learning how to use an Elmo vehicle from her cousins Ben and Maggie, which she’s sitting on in the last picture (Mustafa cruelly cut off Elmo in the editing process). She’s already figured out how to make these two vehicles play a kind of slow-motion bumper cars.
