Maya hates football games
Yesterday was Maya’s first Stanford football game, and it was not exactly the day we had planned. It was the largest and loudest crowd I’ve ever seen at the new stadium. Maya put on a brave (yet scared) face (photo one), and even grinned while in grandma’s lap (photo two), but things went completely off the rails during one of the Cardinal’s MANY scoring drives (no photos, just sobbing).
I headed off with Maya to the family lawn area at one end of the stadium and we played on the lawn, where Mustafa joined us later–it was much quieter, and you could still theoretically follow the game. Maya was so much happier–watching all of the kids and crawling around on the blanket/me. We even had a picnic of sweet potatoes (Maya) and a granola bar (me). Mustafa gave her several baby airplane rides, we walked around to catch a bit of the game (from a safe distance), and then headed home early, with Maya falling asleep in Mustafa’s arms on the way to the car.
Oh, and Stanford whipped the #7 Oregon Ducks, 51-42. So, I attended one
of the best Stanford games of the decade, but I wouldn’t say I *saw*
the game.
